The Congregation Leadership Team visit continues...

Congrégation de Notre-Dame

Visitation at Holy Redeemer Convent, Sydney

We were delighted to host the members of our Congregation Leadership Team on Sunday, October 6, 2019. Our understanding of interculturality expanded and deepened as we each shared some highlights of our unique vocation stories and family backgrounds/cultures. We were also deeply moved by the reflective PowerPoint presentation that followed this sharing. We wish to thank the members of the Congregation Leadership Team for the gift of their presence among us and extend blessings to them as they continue their visitation throughout Visitation Province.

Gwendolyn O’Neil, CND with the Sisters of Holy Redeemer Convent

Sunday, October 6th, thirteen associates gathered at Holy Redeemer Convent, Sydney, NS to meet the Congregation Leadership Team.

Sr. Gwen O’Neil extended a warm welcome to Sisters Agnes (leader, Canada), Ona (USA), Danielle (QC), Sophie (Cameroon) and Ercilia (Guatemala). Janice Jardine, an associate, formerly from Sydney Mines now residing in Quispamsis, New Brunswick was present and received a special welcome as well.

A PowerPoint presentation titled “On the Journey” was enjoyed by all. It enabled us to visualize and contemplate Mary’s journey, God’s journey, Marguerite’s journey, the CND journey and the Associates’ journey. From beginning to end one could sense the community, togetherness and belonging. We are all God’s people, all one family, the family of God.

The Leadership Team and the associates shared ways to encourage Associate Relationship. “We are the potential inviters. We are the tiny seed rooted in Jesus Christ. Following the discussion, a light lunch was enjoyed.

Congregation Leadership Team Visit to Fredericton, October 17

Sister Ona Bessette and Sister Ercilia Ferrera arrived in Fredericton October 16th. We had planned a morning session with Associates of Fredericton, Woodstock and Miramichi. A wild day of rain and wind messed up that plan, but four brave Associates did come from Woodstock to join the visitors. We had a lively sharing time at the Ramada Hotel and enjoyed lunch together. In the afternoon, we stopped by Leo Hayes High School and met one of Sister Karen’s physics classes. Later we joined Sister Charlotte at Windsor Court, “shared our journey stories,” and viewed the prayerful PowerPoint brought to us by Ona and Ercilia.

Visitation at Mary of Peace Community, Montreal

October 18th was a special day for the CND Sisters of Mary of Peace Community in Montreal. They had been looking forward to the visit of the Congregation Leadership Team and were treated to a caring and gentle process and presence of the team members. Srs. Agnes, Ercilia, Ona, Danielle and Sophie came and mingled for some time before they began the program. They introduced themselves and all listened very attentively as they sensed the love and care of our leadership team. The sisters were then invited to share significant moments in their call as Sisters of the Congregation de Notre-Dame or a significant moment of their time on mission, and share they did. Even those who knew one another quite well were delighted with what they learned during this time. At the conclusion of the sharing, a prayerful PowerPoint led us on a Journey with God, Marguerite, and the universe as those present reflected on these aspects in the light of their own personal stories and our General Chapter directives. This was followed by a lovely tea and sweets prepared by the staff of Bon Secours residence, as team members continued to meet and chat one on one with the sisters.

Visitation at de Sève residence, Montreal

Sunday, October 20th was a special day for the sisters in the Montreal area. Those of us who were able, joined the Congregation Leadership Team at de Sève Residence for an afternoon of sharing.

On behalf of those present, Sister Maura McGrath offered a warm welcome to our visitors. Sister Ona Bessette asked us to share the key moments of our life’s journeys. This was truly a sacred time for us because the “atmosphere” in the room was one of deep trust. Although we thought we knew one another fairly well, we learned evermore!

Despite the fact that the details of our life-stories were different, there always seemed to be an expression of deep appreciation of family, friends, Sisters of the Congregation de Notre-Dame who helped in the discernment of our vocations. As we know, God works through others to guide us on the way.

There was also articulation of great love for Marguerite Bourgeoys and of the hope that we who are her daughters today are continuing and will continue her mission in whatever way we possibly can.

The session ended with a lovely power point presentation which spoke of the journey of all—including Jesus, Mary, Marguerite—and us!

Today the Congregation and Province Leadership Teams met to share and reflect on the visitation journey of the past three weeks . . . a blessed time of conversations of the heart with sisters, associates and collaborators. We travelled from the Rocky Mountain to Nova Scotia … we were welcomed from the Atlantic Ocean to Lake Ontario … in all places the hearts and doors of all were open and loving! Thank you! Magnificat!
