Visitation Province Associates

On Fire for Mission

Message from Sister Maureen MacIsaac, CND

On Fire for Mission" saw 63 associates and sisters gather at the Motherhouse on the Victoria Day weekend for the First Visitation Province Associate Assembly! The assembly began with a very beautiful and moving opening ritual. One could feel the love for St. Marguerite Bourgeoys and the strong desire for carrying out the mission. Sisters Ona Bessette and Josephine Badali led us through a process in which our hearts were inflamed. On Saturday evening, we were blessed to be able to celebrate a beautiful Eucharist at Bon Secours to renew our commitment and vows as associates and sisters, respectively. It was a joy to have witnessed and experienced such a spirit-filled assembly. I am sure that St. Marguerite was beaming! Heartfelt thanks and congratulations to our associate co-coordinators Anna Rowley, Marjorie Allison-Ross, Karen Volpe, Sr. Nancy Hurren and Pat Weicker for their vision and creative energy. How fitting that we gathered on the Feast of Pentecost as the Spirit was indeed present!

Right after the Assembly, the co-coordinators, "the soon to be co-coordinators" and I met for our biannual meet-ing. This was our first time to "physically" meet. It was a delight to be together and to get to know one another better. I believe the meeting was very fruitful in all that was accomplished and in building relationships among ourselves. It was Sister Nancy Hurren's last meeting with us. We are grateful to Nancy for her generosity in shar-ing her gifts and for the love she has for Associate Rela-tionship. We know, Nancy, that you will be with us in spirit!

Five Core Values

During the Associate Assembly, Sister Ona Bessette and Sister Jo Badali led us through beautiful process that set us ON FIRE FOR MISSION. Five Core Values for living out our CND Orientation emerged from the Assembly Body. Afterwords, the Coordinators placed the five val-ues into the following statement:

From a Spirit-led Compassionate Heart, we, CND Associates

of Visitation Province commit to:

• Honour the Sacredness of all creation

• Unity in diversity

• Be flexible and open to change

• Act with courage and boldness

How then shall we live today?

Bineta Ba called us to attention during an afternoon Break Time to announce that 549 Associates and Sisters responded to the request to sign the letter to the Prime Minister on the environment. Thanks to the quick response and hard work of our coordinators, Visitation Province is well represented in that total of 549 signatures!

We were privileged to have Monica Lambton, Coordinator, Office of Justice, and Peace & Integrity of Creation (JPIC) Congregation of Notre Dame (Visitation Province) join us on May 23rd for Morning Prayer and a sharing session. The focus of our discussion centred on communications and collaboration between JPIC & Associates. All agreed that today, social and ecological justice is central to our mission as outlined in our Chapter Orientation 2016-2021.

Honduras Outreach

After paying all outstanding expenses for the Associates Assembly, the co-coordinators group found a small fund remains. It was decided to designate this small fund for the use of an associate group in the third world. Marselha Goncalves Margerin, Advocacy Director for the Americas of Amnesty International, recently reported Honduras today to be one of the most violent and unsafe countries in the world. Given the current stress in the Honduran situation, we felt our small fund could be well used to respond to any current needs of the CND Associates in that country. It will be sent via CND connections to Honduras.

In this small way we hope to extend our support to CND Associates elsewhere in their need.

locked in a story of birth.

Each mirrors

the secret the other heard."

"Miryam embarked on the journey.

Her mind precise for the journey.

Her soul inflamed for the journey.

Journeyed to the arms of Elizabeth.

In the warmth of those arms, she knew.

Ancient pathways op'ning before her,

she knew.

Words of her people streamed from her mouth, she knew.

Knew that her God lived within her.

From Miryam of Nazareth: Woman of Strength and Wisdom by Ann Johnson

Happy Feast Day!

As we renew our Commitment and vows, may we be mindful of our promise and our desire to allow Mary and Marguerite's spirituality and charism to inhabit our hearts and our lives.

Like Elizabeth at the Visitation, may we too, recognize God in the peripheries of our time and offer God's love and compassion - and thus transform and be transformed.
