Celebrating Marguerite and the Earth

Visitation East Associate Groups

Holy Angel’s, Sydney

Submitted by Theresa Ann MacNeil

Our group had a lovely Associate meeting on February 18 at Sr. Theresa’s apartment.

Sr. Mary Corbett presented a video, “Laudato Si ... A Canadian Response”. This video’s focus was on the Care of our Common Home. As children of God we have a responsibility to care for all of creation and to protect the Earth for the future generations. Through programs such as "Give It Up For The Earth" we become educated and aware of our responsibility to keep God’s creation from being destroyed by ignorance and human error.

Truro Associates Gathered to Write Individual Pledges and Postcards

Submitted by Anna Rowley

Truro Associates gathered Saturday, February 17th at the home of Roby Barrett to participate in the Citizens for Public Justice Lenten campaign Give It Up for the Earth. We discussed ways in which, as individuals, we could make changes to our lives to reduce our green-house gas emissions. A sample of personal pledges include: buy local and in season at the Farmer’s Market, support Fair Trade products, reduce electricity use, active-ly Reduce-Reuse-Recycle, not buy over packaged items, eat less meat, and walk or cycle more often. The group decided for future associate gatherings we would carpool, cutting the number of vehicles used in half. We completed and mailed the postcard portion calling on the Government of Canada to immediately end all subsidies to the fossil fuel sector. We can see these actions continuing beyond Lent in an effort to live our Congrégation de Notre-Dame Orientation 2016-2021 to “honour and respect our common home.”

Miramichi Group Celebrates Feast of St Marguerite

Submitted by Rosamond Ross-Hayter

On January 17th, we held our associate meeting and welcomed many of our group. It began with prayer which included “Earth Prayer” from Laudato Si. We were all happy with the Prayer Service for Marguerite. It was a beautiful tribute to her to celebrate her feast day. The qualities gave lots of discussion. Geraldine gave a talk on Chapter 2 of Laudato Si. We are using that book in our meetings. Geraldine did a beautiful job bringing many of her experiences into the discussion. Our meeting closed with singing and prayer followed by lunch.

CND Orientation 2016-2021

Rooted in Jesus Christ, in love and compassion, we, CND Sisters and Associates, through contemplative dialogue, dare to:

  • Live interculturality. Face our fears and vulnerabilities. Be open to and celebrate the diversity between genera-tions, cultures, attitudes and structures.
  • Go to the peripheries. In a spirit of mutuality and collaboration, respond in hope to the cries of our wounded world.
  • Honour and respect our “common home.” Take concrete action, resist the forces of destruction and promote life in all its forms.

Jesus Christ calls us to humanize all our relationships. How then shall we live today?

As you know, the Visitation Province Associate Assembly is taking place in Montreal the weekend of May 18-21, 2018. We hope that you are giving some consideration to participating in person at this special event. It’s not too late to register.

We know that some will not be able to attend so the Planning Committee has prepared a process so that all Associates and Sisters can participate in the first phase of the Assembly journey. This was e-mailed to Associates on January 24. You can either participate as an individual or in a group setting. We ask groups to use this process and send in their response on or before April 6 to Anna Rowley. Her mailing address is 58 Marigold Drive, Truro, NS, B2N 6E6. We thank you for your participation.

Lenten Resources

Global Catholic Climate Movement website has many resources on the theme of climate. Check out their website: to see various kinds of prayers, homilies, suggestions for gatherings, etc. One great resource is a calendar titled, “Lenten Fast for Creation”. Each day there’s a new suggestion for an activity that a person can do to reduce their carbon footprint. Here is the calendar link. It is also attached to this e-mail.
