I am delighted to report that we sent a check to First Friends. There is a certain irony that in response to President Trump’s anti-immigrant policies, more groups are reaching out to First Friends with contributions of materials for the folders they distribute. So, The “Have a Heart” Campaign funds will be used primarily to provide phone cards for those in detention. Sr. Marilyn Medinger and I met with the staff at First Friends in early April. Thank you to all who supported the Campaign. Marilyn and I are going to Chicago to attend the Annual Conference on Immigration sponsored by Sisters and Brothers of Immigrants.
On April 1st the CRC-STOP anti-trafficking coalition co-sponsored a Conference at St. John’s University. About 250 people participated. It was our best attended conference to date and our most diverse audience.
Cathy Molloy and I also attended the Trinity Institute on Water Justice. There were several wonderful presenters. The videos are now available. I recommend watching the talks of Katharine Hayhoe and Archbishop Thabo Makgoba. https://www.trinitywallstreet.org/videos/recent?page=5

Launch of the Application Montréal, What a story! …along the river at Maison Saint-Gabriel
Around midday, Wednesday, May 3, the Métayères room at Maison Saint-Gabriel was packed for the launch of the new mobile application: Montréal, What a story! … along the river. As its name indicates, this app was created to help us discover the history of Montréal in the place where it all began – along the river. We are invited to download the application from www.montreal-history.com and to follow a route that transports us through space and time. As we make our way, there are approximately 300 old photos to look at, 35 individuals to meet and about twenty quizzes to do.
World Day of Prayer for Vocations 2017
May 7, 2017 marks the 54th annual World Day of Prayer for Vocations — a day when the Church everywhere asks for special prayer for the ministers of the Church and for “young men and women to hear and respond generously to the Lord’s call to the priesthood, diaconate, religious life, [and] societies of apostolic life.”
Statistics show that 73% of women and men professing final vows participated in one or more parish activities and 88% served in one or more parish ministries before entering religious life. Do young people have these opportunities? Are they invited?
