Solidarity With First Nations

Soeur Marie-Laure Simon, CND

Next week, May 29 to June 3, will be the ceremonial close of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). Many people will be gathering in Ottawa to mark the occasion. KAIROS is holding an inter-generational gathering in Ottawa at the same time on the theme of "Time for Reconciliation.” I will be attending the KAIROS gathering and participating in the TRC Walk for Reconciliation on Sunday, May 31st. I encourage Ottawa area residents to join me in the walk. Information is available here: http://www.trc.ca/websites/trcinstitution/index.php?p=864. And for those further away, you can still be part of the events of this historic moment. Visit the KAIROS website for ideas that can be done in other parts of the country to demonstrate a nationwide commitment to reconciliation.

New Environmental Series From Villagers Media/Green Spirit Tv Now Online

Dear friends,

A series on the environment that I worked with at length, based on a recent CCCB document on the environment, is now online. It includes 12 programs of about 10 minutes each; they have used clips of an interview with me to introduce each segment. The segments interweave papal teaching on the environment with interviews or presentations of various environmental initiatives, or places (like Madonna House and St. Peter's Abbey) that have integrated a healthy relationship with the environment into their Christian commitment and lifestyle.

We think it should be both a good precursor and accompaniment to Pope Francis's forthcoming encyclical on the environment. The note below, from Dawn Deme, the series' producer, gives you various links to the series. It should be an effective tool for a study group or youth group interested in the environment. I hope you find it worthwhile.

Peace,

Don Bolan
