The Catholic Women’s League of St. Francis of Assisi Parish invited the sisters who worked or lived in St. Francis of Assisi Parish to a gathering to celebrate the year of Consecrated Life by a dinner and sharing. Dianne McCarville, president of the CWL, welcomed the sisters and members. The evening began with a short prayer service that ended with the words of Pope Francis: “Wake the world with daunting joy.”

We all shared a delicious turkey dinner prepared by the youth group under the supervision of their leader, Karen McCannell. Following the dinner, the sisters present were asked to share four minutes of their lived life as a consecrated sister. Dianne McCarvell gave a short yet interesting history of the Congregation of Notre Dame beginnings in education. She also spoke of the Sisters of St. Martha who worked in health, social work and education. Sister Alma MacLellan, though absent, was remembered for her work at UPEI as campus Chaplain.

Six CWL members gave memories of the deceased sisters who had worked in the Parish. Sisters Geri Handrahan, Georgie Hughes, Helen Hughes, Margaret Kelly, Winnifred McIvor and Janet Malone. Sister Marie Hagen and five CWL members ended the evening with the humorist, “Sister Act.”
