YOUNG CHURCH is NOT the future Church, but the Church NOW

Peggy Doyle, CND and Mary Ann Rossi, CND

The Diocese of Bridgeport is in the midst of planning for its Fourth Diocesan Synod.  At a recent Vespers service, Bishop Frank Caggiano announced the four topics of the Synod.  SUPPORTING THE YOUNG CHURCH is his first goal.  He reminded us that the YOUNG CHURCH is NOT the future Church, but the Church NOW.  He said that the young people of the Diocese are idealistic and have ideas for who the Church can be and he suggested that they may have the solutions to the problems we face regarding the absence of the young in our parishes. A) At the recent Diocesan listening sessions, 200 teens attended the special Youth Session. B) 33 young people will form the largest single-group delegation to the Synod’s General Sessions. C) Young people are looking for 1) better faith formation for youth/young adults 2) more opportunities for serving 3) More modern prayers 4) More times of Eucharistic adoration 5)  More bilingual programs 6) Engaging music 7) Good preachers. Let’s bring these needs to mind as we build relationships with the young!  Thank you.
