RITE OF WELCOME FOR CANDIDATES IN HAYESVILLE, NC: On January 12, Sr. Terry Martin, the four Associates in Hayesville, NC and I will gather to celebrate the Rite of Welcome to Candidacy for the Associate Relationship with some of the ten women in the picture above plus Donna Brummert who was not present when the picture was taken in the fall. All eleven women have been meeting with Associates, Linda Cagle, Jeanne Cooper, Betty Cooper, Barbara Mc Grattan, and Sr. Terry as “Friends of Marguerite”. A number of them have chosen to become Candidates, the next step in their formation to become Associates of the Congregation of Notre Dame. Some are choosing to continue to be “Friends of Marguerite”. The eleven women are enthusiastic in their appreciation of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys and Congregation of Notre Dame spirituality.

ST. MARGUERITE BOURGEOYS CENTER FOR FAMILY MINISTRIES: On January 11, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hayesville, NC, the St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Center for Family Ministries will be inaugurated and blessed. Associate Jean Cooper had the vision of expanding the Religious Education office to a ministry for families. She saw the corollary of the work of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys in educating children and their families in Ville Marie to the new beginnings of their parish, in its diversity of age and culture with a growing immigrant population. Jean also proposed that this would be a legacy to Sr. Terry Martin and the presence of the Congregation of Notre Dame charism in far western North Carolina.

The Parish Council approved the proposal. After the four Congregation of Notre Dame Associates make the first renewal of their commitment as Associates at the end of the Sunday Liturgy, the blessing of the St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Center for Family Ministries will take place at the second floor offices of the parish facility. Let us pray for blessings on the family ministry of this new center and the new Candidates, “Friends of Marguerite”, Associates and Sr. Terry in NC.
