Vigil for Lima at Villa Notre Dame in Wilton, CT

Sr. Rose Mary Sullivan, CND

In solidarity with People of Faith across the Globe, The Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame and the School Sisters of Notre Dame hosted a Vigil for Lima on December 7 at Villa Notre Dame in Wilton, CT.

Catholic Faith Communities from Norwalk and Wilton were invited to join in our prayer for wisdom in planning our care for the earth.

The context of the Prayer was our Advent Season. For that reasons other Protestant Faith Communities were also invited.

Sister Ethel Howley SSND did the first Reading.

After the welcome, a video of Marshallese poet, Kathy Jetnil-Kijiner’s address at the opening of the UN Climate Summit was viewed. It was a stirring talk.  Those at the vigil were asked to share with one other person, what touched them or what  they wanted to remember.

The sound of reverent sharing filled the Chapel.

There were about 80 People at the Vigil and all seemed eager to share.

We were blessed by our musicians whose passion for creation was evident.

Sister Mary Anne Rossi CND lit the first Advent Candle.

Sister Patricia McCarthy CND did the second reading.

Sister Justine Nutz, SSND lit the second Advent Candle.

Our prayer was enhanced by our leaders of Song, Evelyn Avoglia  and Sr. Kathleen Deignan, CND.

The concluding rite was  a spontaneous one initiated by Sr. Maryann Calabrese, CND. While Evelyn and Kathleen sang Pax Sacra Mundi, the globe was held and cherished by those at the Vigil.

The movement included all and gave each an opportunity to cherish the earth.

We left the Vigil with the last hymn echoing in our hearts.
