N.E.R.A. NEW ENGLAND RELIGIOUS AND ASSOCIATE GATHERING, Ellen Lynch, Associate

On November 1, 2014, I attended the twentieth annual gathering of this group. The first session looked back at the last 20 years of NERA. Then we looked at considerations and options for letting go of some things and bringing forward others. Some of the comments were:

  • Each Community has its own charism to continue to bring forward.
  • Associates will need to be a part of the future of each community to continue the charism.
  • Realizing the limited number of vowed members Associates will need to be involved in mission, on committees and wherever they can be of service.

The last session discussion was on what steps we can take to move forward. Some of the conclusions were:

  • Move forward energetically and be proactive.
  • Use technology that is available now.
  • Develop more leadership among Associates.
  • Expand membership.
