A Global Vigil for a Climate Agreement - Sunday, December 7th

JPIC Committee and Maura McGrath, CND

We were there in September when more than 400,000 people gathered in New York City for the People’s Climate March. And we were among over a million human beings who took to the streets in every part of our globe. We marched for those of us in Cameroon, Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala and for all who are most affected by climate change and who bear the brunt of a system that favours those who have.

This December, 2014 world leaders will meet once again - this time in Lima Peru. As part of the lead up to the next major Climate Summit in Paris in 2015, representatives from the world’s governments are meeting to develop an outline of a new international climate agreement. Canada is a key player in these climate negotiations and we must continue to work for our country leaders to play a positive role.

To show support for this effort and to urge and encourage leaders bravely to succeed, Our Voices, which is a global, faith-based climate justice movement, is organizing #LightForLima. This is a global series of prayer vigils beginning on the evening of Sunday, December 7, in communities around the world. Read more at

Please join in prayer us as we gather in prayerful vigil on December 7th and pray for government leaders to succeed in the international climate change negotiations. Gatherings have already been organized with the SSND and CND (Blessed Sacrament) together in the United States, and at the CND Motherhouse in Montreal. We invite you to organize a group for prayer, however big or small, in your region. May we continue to be there!!
