July 22-23, 2019: charism

Estelle and Lilian, CND

Sisters Mariana, Violaine and Jeannette gave a presentation on this theme. Their fine introduction began with the inspiration of Sister Marie-Marcelle who says, “charism is in the person non in the works.” We immediately understood that on that day we would be working on ourselves.

We very much appreciated the way our sisters presented the theme; it was practical rather than theoretical. There were times of reflections that allowed us to dig deeper within ourselves in order to answer the questions asked of us. For example: What does charism mean to me, and how do I live it in relation to Marguerite Bourgeoys? Through in-depth and personal reflections, we found many answers to these questions. In our own lives, we found concrete experiences of which we are proud and which are in keeping with the charism of Marguerite Bourgeoys.

This presentation was experienced in a climate of peace, openness and trust. Working in small groups was interesting and filled with rich exchanges. We were invited to select in silence images from among those that had been offered by our sisters that spoke to and called to us.

During our sharing, we discovered that we had much in common such as the desire to move in the same direction, in the footsteps of Marguerite Bourgeoys. We all ardently want to reach out to other people. This desire prompts us to break down our own walls and those of others and to look towards the same future under the protection of the Virgin Mary. We realized that we are women of passion, filled with love and compassion to give, and present and attentive to others. Once again, we became aware that we are women ready to face our differences by together seeking how to live our reality in the footsteps of Mother Bourgeoys. We also understand our great diversity. We are lovely little flowers, all different from one another, all serving to embellish the same beautiful garden. We gave thanks for the beauty of our differences. We want to find ways to achieve something new, overcome our biases and embrace cultural, racial and generational differences. Together, we want to build a new culture that will open us to the world. In short, we are ready to serve.

We can confirm that the charism of Marguerite Bourgeoys is present in our various regions and provinces. Everything that we have lived and shared regarding charism is the perfect introduction to the topic of interculturality, which we will address in the following days.
