Peace & Justice News – Sr. Jaculyn Hanrahan

JUSTICE 911 - July 18, 2019 is a national day of action to challenge the Trump administration’s abuse of immigrant children and families. Catholic planning partners include, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR), Conference of Major Superiors of Men (CMSM), Franciscan Action Network (FAN), Ignatian Solidarity Network, the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, the Maryknoll Office of Global Concerns, Columban Center for Advocacy, National Advocacy Center of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, Sisters of the Sacred Heart, and Pax Christi

The prayerful direct action in Washington DC is scheduled for mid-morning on July 18. Those who gather will call on the Trump administration to end the abuse and detention of children. The event will include prayer, ritual, and a call to action by Catholic leaders. Because of the urgency and depth of the injustice, there will also be an opportunity, for those who choose, to engage in nonviolent civil disobedience. Those who seriously consider coming to Washington DC on July 18 to join in this event should contact one of the groups listed above. If you are interested and able to join us in Washington, please complete this form to share your interest with organizers.

Those of us who can’t join in person on the 18th, are asked to join in spirit. The participants count on the prayerful support of each of us. They also hope that we will be able to join them in subsequent national and local actions.

Core Committee: Using Zoom technology, all Core Committee members were able to meet in April for a work weekend to discuss the Strategic Plan and the accomplishments and future initiatives of the four Pillars.

Welcome To Our New Candidates! Eleven new Candidates for Associate Relationship were welcomed this spring in Connecticut, Illinois, New York, and Rhode Island. This month we are highlighting the women from the formation blog, CT and RI who were recently welcomed as Candidates during a Ritual of Welcome in their local Associate groups.

Reception At St. Columba, NYC: On May 19, 2019, a statue of Marguerite Bourgeoys was installed and blessed at St. Columba Church during a Sunday liturgy in recognition of the presence of the CND community in the parish's pastoral and school life since the mid-1940s. St. Columba Sisters and Associates planned the liturgy and reception and were glad to welcome many Sisters, Associates, and St. Columba parishioners to the celebration.
