Blessed Sacrament Province

Sisters of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame celebrate with Sister Pat Jamele her induction into the Holy Cross Crusader Hall of Honor.

From Our Leadership Team:

Led by Associate Co-coordinator Donna Wuhrer, in the province offices we prayed to Our Lady of Guadalupe on her feast day, in solidarity with our sisters and brothers seeking to cross our southern border. Afterwards we feasted Mexican-style!

In addition, we signed as a Leadership Team a call to end the practice of housing people for Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Kankakee County.

For Your Info!

Sister Patricia Corley’s service as President of Notre Dame Academy will be completed next summer. Please join us in thanking her for all she has done for our school these past almost eleven years, and pray for blessings on the process of searching for a new President. As Chair of the Board of Trustees, Sister Carmel Caputo will head the search committee. Sisters Maria Cassano, Joan Mahoney, and Mary Anne Foley, along with others representing various constituencies, will serve on it.

Congratulations to Sister Nancy Downing: Covenant House New York has received a $2 million grant from the State of New York.

ASSOCIATE NEWS – Sr. Joan Mahoney & Donna Wuhrer

Spirit of the Season

At their Advent Retreat Rhode Island Associates and friends hold gifts for a Salvadorian woman whom Associate Judy Laffey befriended at the shelter where she volunteers. They also contributed almost $600 to help the woman meet the needs of her soon-to-be-born daughter and two other young daughters.

The Ridgefield Associate Community wrapping gifts of journals for the women graduating from Sr. Betty King’s ESL class at Caroline House, Bridgeport. They do this each time Sr. Betty has a graduating class.

These two groups are representative of the larger community of Associates and Sisters reaching out with Christmas generosity to others this season.

Associates Living the Congrégation de Notre-Dame Mission Orientation: Associates continue to act on one of the three elements of the CND Orientation 2016-2021. The following responses represent a compilation of replies of Associates to the element:.

HONORING AND RESPECTING OUR “COMMON HOME”.

Farming without using insecticides or herbicides in growing pollinators and raising honeybees on our farm

Promoting biodiversity in my yard by creating a habitat that encourages insects, birds, and mammals and presenting “Gardening for the Birds” to groups

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle… look at using “green” products around my home, follow legislative activities that impact God’s universe, work at refraining from overly excessive materialism…clean up my carbon footprint

Became a part of the Catholic Climate Covenant movement. I make a point in my Religious Education classes to emphasize the principles laid out in “Laudato Si”. I feel strongly that this is in keeping with the mission of liberating education of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame.

I am grateful to each of you for your continued support and prayers. Marguerite would be proud of the ways we mentor new members and nurture their vocation. May this season of Advent and Christmas rekindle hope in your hearts.

VOCATION NEWS – Sr. Ann Marie Strileckis

We are booking Quonnie for the weekend of May 17, 18, 19, 2019 as a Vocations Awareness Weekend!!! Please start talking in your local communities about 3 or 4 recent graduates from high school or older that you would reach out to and invite Visitation - style to this weekend. Please continue to hold these women in your discerning prayer as a local community.

Our two Margarets—Peggy Doyle, CND and my sister Marg – will be working together to create a Vocations brochure. Please keep them in your supportive prayer.
