Fort Louisbourg Welcomes Congregation de Notre-Dame Volunteers on Canada Day:  On Friday, June 8th the staff at Fort Louisbourg warmly and energetically welcomed the CND volunteers. They introduced us to the staff on duty and gave a general orientation to the premises. During our walk we met some people who had already begun their summer employment and were in period costume of the persons they represented.

The day was sunny, windy but not cold. We met a teacher from PEI who had his students do an overnight stay at the fortress (teacher was Joan Marie Chaisson’s nephew). Louisbourg provides 18th century tenting experience or you can sleep inside one of the building.

The volunteers will begin on July 1st as this is the beginning of their peak season.

Mabou Retreat - June 2018

June 1st – 3rd, Sister Alma MacLellan and Sister Florence MacKenzie put on our yearly Ladies Retreat at St. Joseph Renewal Center in Mabou, NS.  This year, the 18th year for our retreat, was a Very Special gathering because the Renewal Center has been sold. The crowd was large; we were 22, coming from Port Felix, Larry’s River, Canso, Queensport, Halifax – and a relative from British Columbia. The Theme for the weekend was “Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow.”  We used scripture passages... Jesus is knocking on the door of your heart... Where do you live?... Come and See.

“Come and See” is the invitation Jesus offered two disciples of John the Baptist.  How did they respond to this invitation, and how would you respond to it were the questions to the group.  John’s disciples followed Jesus, who saw them following him and said, “What do you want?” They said, “Where do you live?” “How is it to be around you?” And Jesus said “Come and See.”  We sang, we listened, we shared, we sat quietly in meditation and listened for Jesus’s knock on the door of our hearts.

Saturday evening was a relaxing time.  We had a birthday celebration and our guest from British Columbia was a square dance teacher, so we had lots of laughs and fun while she tried to teach us the steps.  On Sunday we had a surprise visit from Father Dan, the former pastor of Port Felix, Queensport, Little Dover and Canso parishes.

We hope that we will be able to continue this annual get-together and we are all very emotional knowing that it will be our last one at St. Joseph Renewal Centre.  Many thanks to Sister Catherine MacEachern.

We would also like to thank Sister Alma and Sister Florence for sharing their time and talent with us for the past 18 years; we hope that they will continue for many more years to come. You have been our rock and our fortress and have been a very special part of our spiritual lives. May God Bless you both!
