Sr. Joan Mahoney & Donna Wuhrer

During this holiday season, many Associate Communities have been coming together to bring glad tidings to those in need and to our Senior Sisters.

The Congregation de Notre-Dame Associates and friends of Rhode Island held our annual Advent Retreat on December 3rd at the home of Kristen. The warmth of her home facilitated the warmth of our coming together to prayerfully share our personal Advent symbols and stories. In keeping with the spirit of "going to the peripheries", we adopted a homeless family from Holy Family Home for Mothers and Children run by a local parish in Providence, fulfilled their Christmas "wish lists", wrapped all the presents and readied them for Santa's sleigh. We also enjoyed all of the home made delicacies prepared by everyone for the occasion.

CND Associates are again helping to pack clothing and household goods for families in southwest Virginia. Project Appalachia at the Benedictine Grange ships two trucks twice yearly to Appalachia to assist Sisters Beth Davies and Jaculyn Hanrahan, CND, in their mission among those made poor.

The December truck also contains Christmas gifts for families living in the Women's and Men's Shelters in Norton, VA, as well as for families receiving assistance at the Jonesville United Methodist Church Food Pantry in Jonesville, and in St. Charles. Gifts have been donated by members of the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish and School in Fairfield, CT, and by the Benedictine Grange in Redding, CT, as well as by Associates.

Project Appalachia donates funds every month to assist in the purchase of food and milk, clean drinking water, utilities, and drug addiction education. The Congregation of Notre Dame, the Benedictine Grange, and the Parish of St. Thomas Aquinas graciously assist in raising the necessary funds for this ongoing project.

Stamford Associates Kathleen, and Connie enjoyed having lunch with our Sisters at Andrus. The Sisters appreciated their visit. Connie and Kitty assisted Sr. Joan Mahoney in setting up the 11:15 am Eucharist on November 26. They will be assisted by other Stamford Associates when they help with some Sunday liturgies in the New Year.

A number of Stamford Associates are members of this knitting group that made hats and baby blankets for a neo-natal intensive care unit in a Stamford Hospital.
