Visitation Province Coordinators (Canada) Attend Blessed Sacrament Associate Assembly (USA)

Submitted by Marjorie Allison-Ross

Blessed Sacrament Province (USA province of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame) held their second CND Associate Assembly in Wilton, CT October 20-22, 2017. The 5 Visitation Province (Canadian province of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame) coordinators along with the Central Office coordinators of Associate Relationship joined about 70 associates and sisters from the Blessed Sacrament Province. Many associates were involved in planning the event. Friday evening opened with prayer and Introduction of local communities and associates. Each group was to bring a symbol of their group. We Visitation coordinators decided to use a wooden sculpture of the Visitation as our symbol. There were socials Friday and Saturday evenings so we got to spend time with the associates and share what is happening in each other’s areas.

Sister Lorraine Caza, CND

On Saturday morning, the keynote address was given by Sister Lorraine Caza, a former CND Congregation Leader. When she was introduced, Sr. Lorraine was referred to as a CND rock star! She didn’t disappoint those assembled. The theme for her presentation was “Associate Relationship: Alive Today Co-creating God’s Dream for Tomorrow.” She gave us a great history of Congrégation de Notre-Dame Associate Relationship starting with the Extern Congregation in Marguerite Bourgeoys’s time. She spoke about Sr. Louise Côté who was the Congregation Leader when the CND Associate Relationship was initiated in 1981. She quoted Sr. Madeleine Rochette who spoke about the Associate Relationship as being a little shoot on the CND tree. Sr. Lorraine informed us that the first Associates to join in 1981 where from Quebec and were followed by associates in other parts of Canada in January 1982. In March 1982, there were associates in the USA. Sr. Lorraine shared that in 2001 during the 20th Anniversary of Associate Relationship she said, “Associate Relationship is a Blessing for the Congregation, the Church and the World.”

She asked us to look at the elements brought out at the General Chapter in 2016: Live interculturality; Go to the peripheries; Honour and respect our common home. She spoke about humanizing our relationships and suggested that we use some of the resources that have come from Pope Francis (Laudato Si’, Joy of the Gospel, Joy of Love). Sr. Lorraine’s enthusiasm for Associate Relationship was infectious. She spoke with passion and always had a smile on her face. When she was finished, she was given a standing ovation.

Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, those attending the Assembly reviewed the Associate Strategic Plan for Blessed Sacrament Province for the next 5 years. There was lots of positive energy and enthusiasm among the associates and sisters for this work. The Visitation coordinators were part of the discussion and we decided to act on some of their ideas and implement them in our province. One that was quick and easy to implement was the closed Facebook page.

CND Calendar quote for November 2017

Reflection: “Joy comes from knowing that God is at work in your life in spite of your circumstances.”

 - Jim George

Question: Am I able to radiate joy in all circumstances?

July visit to Sisters of Providence Motherhouse Kingston Ontario

Submitted by Theresa MacNeil

In July, by the grace of God I had a wonderful visit to The Mother house of The Sisters of Providence in Kingston, Ontario. Before my trip to Kingston to visit my daughter Cathy Lee, I met with Sr. Gwen O'Neil and mentioned to her I would be visiting the Mother house. She requested I visit Sr. Ruth Penny as she was from Whitney Pier, Sydney. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Sr. Eileen O'Grady who graciously took my daughter and I to Sr. Ruth's room. Our visit was so enjoyable. It was great to have my daughter with me to be part of this wonderful visitation. While there we also visited with Delores Hall who I met during a retreat in Mabou in 2015 when she was the facilitator for the retreat. Her gentle manner and beautiful Faith in our Lord was oozing out of her and I was so intrigued with her. I'll never forget the beautiful mantra she shared … “Set aside every fear, set aside every fear, set aside every fear and Trust!”

As a CND associate I hope my commitment is truly lived through many more visitations with the Spirit of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys, Our Holy Mother Mary and Jesus.
