Visitation Province

“I do not understand

The mystery of grace-

Only that it meets us where we are

And does not leave us

Where it found us.”

(Anne Lamott)

It is always a thankful time to look back on events that have been realized through the collaboration of many hands and hearts. The Spirituality Resource Group in dreaming about possibilities this year imagined offering a Visitation Spirituality Retreat and also a Congregation of Notre Dame gathering called GRACED AGING for sisters in their 70’s.

Sisters Mary Anne Foley, CND, and Ann Perrin, CND, graciously offered an inspiring Visitation Spirituality August retreat in Summerside and an afternoon presentation for the sisters at Andrews. This wonderful team effort combined insights in both spirituality, psychology and a faith sharing time for those who came. It seems our Visitation-Pentecost charism keeps opening surprising doors/ paths every time it is contemplated.

The Graced Aging-Keeping the Energy Alive Gathering facilitated by Nancy Sylvester, IHM, September 23-25 at the Motherhouse brought together 22 sisters. There was anticipation and hopefulness in the air. The days were filled with ritual, contemplative practice, a well-developed process to take the group deeply into the experience of aging, small group dialogue, and future commitment to what was discovered. Nancy Sylvester was able to integrate material from the readings of Brian Swimme and Kathleen Dowling Singh on powers of the universe and energy for aging… no small task. Participants welcomed the wisdom and life experience of one another and renewed insights to enrich them for their “adventure” of aging gracefully. Topics for a future gathering were suggested.

The Canadian Forum on Theology and Education offered a workshop in April on Evolution and the Spiritual Life: Exploring changing images of God and the implications for daily life and spirituality. This was attended by a number of Congregation of Notre Dame sisters and associates. The workshop presenters were Joan Chittister, OSB and Diarmuid O’Murchu, MSC. Another resource available is a DVD series by Ilia Delio on Evolution and Christogenesis which integrates the theology of Teilhard de Chardin and the new cosmology.
