Catholic School Conference

On October 2-4 the Diocese of Nelson in B.C. had their annual Catholic School Conference with 160 teachers and support staff. The keynote speakers were Mary Richardson, CND Associate and Sister Shelley Grant, CND.

The topic throughout the presentations was Understanding First Nations History, Culture and Spirituality after the Residential School System and its present day effects on the First Nations People. Stories, experiences, traditions, spirituality, cultural connections, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission experience, and approaches to help one better understand and build our relationships with our First Nations People were some of the many areas presented.

First Nations Catholic Ministry is one that a handbook is not written for; it is walking and journeying with a people who are culturally different and yet spiritually connected to our Catholic traditions.
