With the closing of Congregation of Notre Dame (CND) Sisters' residences in Rhode Island, the RI Associates lost their CND home.  However, St. Marguerite and all deceased CND sisters who served in RI and deceased RI Associates were hovering close to Mary in Heaven when Associate Susan Connery talked with Msgr. Jacques L. Plante, Pastor of St. Mary's Church, Providence about the parish offering them a meeting place.  Not only did he offer the rectory for their monthly meetings but invited the group to become involved in the social outreach of the parish. On October 6th, the RI Associates will offer a "Come and See", 5-7 pm, at St. Mary's for parishioners and friends to meet them and learn more about the CND Associate/Friends Relationship.

In the Church's August 25th bulletin, the following item is found "August 1890:  The Sisters of the Congregation de Notre Dame arrived in Providence (and the five Sisters) began their teaching duties on September 8." During the day, the Sisters educated 242 pupils in the Barton Street Chapel and Convent and also taught lessons in the evenings to children who worked in the mills.

At the gathering at Quonnie on August 24 with Sr. Joan pictured above, the RI Associates recognized their strong CND roots from all that Sr. Mary Ann Rossi provided for them.  They also know the Spirit is compelling and guiding them in this new chapter of their CND Associate Relationship and commitment in RI.  Let us unite in prayer for and well wishes to the RI Associates as they begin this new phase of CND presence to St. Mary's, Broadway, Providence.
