A message from Sister Josephine Badali, CND

CND

The meeting of the International Union of Superiors General (UISG) It will not be so among you, Mt. 20:26, The Service of Leadership According to the Gospel began today in Rome. We are 800 Superiors General from 76 countries. I am participating at a table with Sisters from Philippines, Zambia, Great Britain, USA, India, Rome, Tanzania and Kenya. As well, I have brought all of you, CNDs, to this gathering with me.

After a welcome address by the president, Mary Loiu Wirtz, FCJM, and table introductions, we took time to reflect on what the logo says about leadership. We were invited to listen to our hearts and to let the logo speak to us. You might wish to do the same reflection.

Sister Mary John Mananzan, OSB, from the Philippines gave the first conference entitled, Post Vatican II Perspectives on Religious Leadership. Sister Mary John suggested that Vatican II offered four (4) key concepts to the understanding of religious leadership: participation, collegiality, subsidiarity and accountability. Three (3) leadership models, she notes, were influenced by the these principles and have their roots in Vatican II: Servant Leadership, Shared Leadership and the Use of Power: From Control to Compassion.

All of us are leaders, I invite you to check the UISG website (www.uisg.org) to find the entire text. Vidimus Dominum (www.vidimusdominum) also posts information on the sessions.
