Human Rights Day, December 10

This year marks the 64th anniversary of the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Internationally, December 10 is the day to recall and celebrate that "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights" (1948) The specific focus for 2012 is: Inclusion and the right to participate in public life. Catholic Social Teaching tells us that human rights are from the fundamental dignity of the human person and our rights correspond to the essentials needed to live in dignity and freedom. Aware that this is not a reality for many of our brothers and sisters around the world, we continue to seek ways to respond to the cries for justice that we see and hear around us.
