November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness month

Visitation Province

As November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness month, the students of Sydney Academy arranged a fundraiser to “Put your teacher in jail” for one class period. Each homeroom class was to bring in money to their homeroom teacher. The class who raised the greatest amount would then have their teacher arrested by staff member Constable Sonya Spencer of the Cape Breton Regional Police. The teacher would then be taken to a makeshift jail in the school cafeteria.

Sister Maureen Mac Isaac’s English 10 homeroom class raised the most money in the school for this worthy cause. The students took great delight in seeing their teacher “arrested” before their eyes and escorted by Constable Spencer to jail. They were rewarded with a free class while Sister Maureen pleaded her innocence to anyone who would listen!!
