Launch of the Japanese Version of the Website "Faith in Action "

Stéphanie Manseau

The sisters of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame are very happy to announce the launch of the Japanese version of the virtual exhibit Faith in Action. Created in 2011, this site is the fruit of collaboration between Marguerite-Bourgeoys Museum/Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel, the Archives Services and the Communication Services of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame. Through images and texts on the history of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame since its foundation in the 17th century, this website explains the mission of the sisters of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame and provides information on the different schools they founded, ran and at which they taught. Among its different sections, you will find school manuals, portraits of superiors and a timeline.

Present in Japan since 1932, the sisters of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame were committed to making this resource available in the language of this country that is so intimately linked to their history. The Congrégation de Notre-Dame currently has five schools in Fukushima and Tokyo ranging from kindergarten (Margarita Kindergarten) to college (Sakura No Seibo Junior College). Students from these schools will surely find on this site a great deal of information that will help them understand the history of the institutions they attend as well as the values that inspire the education given.

During the launch of the first version of Faith in Action, the leader of the Congregation, Sister Josephine Badali, recalled that Marguerite Bourgeoys, foundress of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame, “believed that education is one of the keys to the freedom and full potential of the individual person and to building a just society. She wanted all people to have the possibility of an education and she honed the skills needed to bring it to those who were poor and had little access to it. Marguerite encouraged her Sisters to go wherever they were needed and to transmit Christian faith and values, to have prayerful and generous hearts.”

Faith in Action is now available in four languages: French, English, Spanish and Japanese.
