Visitation Province

Area Gathering – Mabou, NS

On Saturday, December 10th a profitable and enjoyable gathering of sisters and associates took place at St. Joseph Convent, Mabou. Sr. Ann Broderick led us in a reflective prayer followed by a wonderful overview of the General Chapter proceedings. The PowerPoint presentation showed the joyful spirit which permeated the event. Following a short tea/coffee break Sr. Connie MacIsaac led us in looking ahead to the upcoming Provincial Chapter which takes place from July 10-16, 2017. The personal sharing following both presentations gave all of us opportunities to bring the Congrégation de Notre-Dame Orientation 2016-2021 and Visitation Province Direction Statement to prayer and further implementation. A Reflective Prayer brought our gathering to a close with deep gratitude to Srs. Ann and Connie and to all for making this gathering possible despite the busyness of the Season.

Area Gathering – Truro, NS

Sisters and associates from mainland Nova Scotia gathered to discuss the many different ways to build our understanding of the General Chapter Orientation as we move forward linking it to our Province Directive. The early discussion was around the idea that we are all called to support each other in developing our personal growth through respect, awareness and fairness as we share life on a daily basis. We are also expected to achieve this goal with a caring spirit as an ecological system. All can be assured that our human potential will reach new heights as we grow in right relationship with each other. The Directive is mainly about being rooted in God and following peaceful ways. Thank you to Sister Becky McKenna and Sister Donna McInnis for a very well organized informative and pleasant presentation.

Rooted in Jesus Christ, Let Us Cultivate Love and Compassion

A good number of us, Congrégation de Notre-Dame sisters and associates, met at Providence Motherhouse in Kingston, Ontario, on Saturday, December 10 to hear about, and to reflect on last summer’s General Chapter and the upcoming Provincial Chapter in Antigonish, NS. At the invitation of very capable facilitators in the persons of Sr. Maureen Baldwin and Associate Karen Volpe, we were led into a process that gave us a taste of the experience of the three weeks of General Chapter. It would have been hard not to feel the excitement coming through in the prayer, songs, pictures, reflections, all rooted in an experience of contemplative listening and sharing in both small and large groups. Gratitude was expressed at the opportunity that was ours to follow some parts of the General Chapter through live streaming.

Our afternoon reflections, again beginning with song and contemplative listening, helped us celebrate what we recognized as the prophetic voice of Visitation Province through its Direction Statements of 2009 and 2013. Our Province delegates faithfully brought to the gathering in Cornwall the desire of each one of us. We are grateful. “Where is God calling us, as Visitation Province, at this moment?” We hear the invitation to continue the journey together in right relationship, rooted ever more deeply in the heart of our God and of “the Sacred Community of which we are a part,” each of us desiring to embody, where we are, the answer to the question “How then shall we live today?” Our personal and communal living into that question can but strengthen the whole Congregation.
