Earth Day – April 22nd

Heavenly Father and Mother, thank you for our life-giving Earth that we celebrate today on Earth Day. Bless all the celebrations, educational programs, and projects that seek to express our appreciation for this great gift. May we be zealous for the Earth not just today, but every day of our lives. Guide us in the monumental and important mission of restoring the integrity of creation. We dedicate our lives anew to you and to this great work of our time. This we pray through Christ and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Prayer from the CSJ Ministry for Social Justice, Peace, and Care of Earth

Very readable, with excellent questions to invite dialogue and discussion. – Eleanor McCloskey, CND

Guaranteed Income

Kingston’s city council is now Canada’s first elected body to put its stamp of approval on the need for a guaranteed income for all. A basic, liveable income would address poverty, inequality and the fast-changing world of work. A guaranteed income would keep everyone stable, regardless of what happens to jobs. It is expected to eventually reduce the costs of healthcare and even corrections. (Kingston area is the prison capital of the country with 6 federal prisons!)

The motion passed unanimously – remarkable for politicians normally divided on any issue. Supporters of the motion said that this was progress that exceeded their hopes and imaginations. Jean-Yves Duclos, federal minister responsible for social development, said that he was personally pleased that people are interested in this idea. As an economist he himself has studied the Basic Income Guarantee. However there is still a lot of work to do before the dream of a poverty-free life becomes a right of citizenship. – Rosemary Brosseau, CND

Contemplative Dialogue

A filmed contemplative dialogue session with Liz Sweeney, SSJ, "Unleashing the Transformative Power of Communal Wisdom" is a one hour video that demonstrates one method by which a group can engage in contemplative dialogue. This one-hour video may be seen online at http://media01.commpartners.com/LCWR/March2016/index.html and is provided by LCWR so that viewers may come to better understand this form of dialogue by watching an actual contemplative dialogue session. The video may be shared widely. Contemplative dialogue fosters an exchange that allows for differences to be expressed, honored and held with reverence. There is a downloadable PDF document with additional information on contemplative dialogue and it suggests how a session might be conducted at https://lcwr.org/sites/default/files/page/files/contemplative_dialogue_-_unleashing_the_power_final.pdf
