100 Years Young!

CND

Sr. Anastasia Murphy on April 3, 2012,
the day of her 100th birthday, has been heard to say,
" I have outlived the Titanic"

On Sunday, April 22, the sisters of the Montreal area gathered at the CND Administration Centre to honour Sister Anastasia Murphy on her 100th birthday. Approximately 60 guests responded to the invitation to celebrate with Anastasia. They came from near and far including Toronto, Richmond QC, Ste-Adèle, Halifax and Newfoundland.

A beautifully planned and simply presented Eucharist began the festivities. The presider was Bishop James Wingle, Chaplain at the Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Infirmary. In his homily he managed to include references to the fact that it was also Earth Day as he reflected o n Anastasia’s arrival on this earth and her contribution to the planet for the last 100 years.

Following the Eucharist, a delicious catered lunch was served. During the meal Sister Patricia Landry addressed our guest of honour with some humorous recollections of her life as a young woman and her early years as a CND. Sister Josephine Badali, Congregation Leader, expressed birthday blessings and gratitude to Anastasia for her generous and faithful commitment as a CND. Sister Ann Broderick, Provincial Leader, spoke on behalf of Visitation Province offering congratulations and birthday wishes. One of Anastasia’s nieces from Newfoundland brought greetings from the family and spoke with great love of the gift Anastasia has been for them over the years. Anastasia expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the beautiful celebration and for all the time and energy the Infirmary staff had spent in helping to make it so very special.

Truly it was a time to remember, to rejoice and to celebrate.

Sr. Eleanor Monahan, CND
