150th Anniversary In Waterbury: On September 8, Cathy, an associate from Chicago, attended the 150th anniversary of five CND sisters coming to Waterbury, CT from Montreal. Cathy is a graduate from Waterbury Catholic High School and was asked to speak during the celebration dinner. Below is an adapted excerpt from Cathy’s speech talking about her gratefulness and joy in knowing the Sisters of the Congregation de Notre-Dame and her mission as an associate to carry on their spirit.

“A little over three years ago in Chicago, Sisters Regina DeVito and Darlene Mayo invited me and three other women to join a group to learn about the life and teachings of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys. In May of 2018, we made our first commitments as associates in the Congregation de Notre-Dame. Part of our preparation was a letter we had to write to express our intention and request to be associates. I want to read you a few sentences from the closing of my letter…“Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t add to my request my gratefulness and joy at knowing the Sisters of the Congregation de Notre-Dame. My four years at Waterbury Catholic High School were the best of my life educationally and spiritually. The Congregation de Notre-Dame women who dedicated their lives to us during those years followed St. Marguerite Bourgeoys’s call to action and faith. Their attention and inspiration changed my life. I have carried in my heart that inspiration, the friendships with sisters and fellow students to this day. Their lives have added quality to mine. In some small way, choosing to be a Congregation de Notre-Dame associate feels like a gesture of thanks to them as I help to carry on their spirit.”

Associate Retreat: 25 associates, candidates and friends gathered at Quonnie from September 13-15 for a retreat given by Sr. Kathleen Deignan: Marguerite’s Beatitudes: The Blessing Way. Through prayer, talks, and sharing, retreatants reflected on Marguerite Bourgeoys’s life and how she walked and lived “the Blessing Way” - - - in visitation, service, and sacrifice. At the end of the retreat, each person was invited to write and share a beatitude they felt they could live in the spirit of Marguerite Bougeoys’ Blessing Way. We offer a special thanks to Sisters who joined us on the Quonnie weekend to prepare meals for all to enjoy—Marilyn Doucette, Pat Jamele, and Mary Ann Rossi!
