Introduction: Background from Church community and International Community
Since Friday September 22, 2017, and particularly from midnight on Friday 29 to midnight on Monday Oct. 2nd, the people of the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon, which are coterminous with Ecclesiastical Province of Bamenda, have gone through a very challenging and crucial period. Although the danger is not yet over, we, the Bishops of the Bamenda Provincial Episcopal Conference (BAPEC), consider it our bounded and God-given duty to make this declaration … to share with our brothers and sisters and people of good will what we have gone through up till now and possibly to contribute to the prevention of worse that may still come if our voice, which is that of the voiceless and similar other well-intentioned voices are not heeded by the competent authorities.

To celebrate Montreal’s 375th anniversary, Carrefour Marguerite-Bourgeoys organized a meal of bread and soup in honor of Marguerite Bourgeoys. This event took place at the mother house of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame on Wednesday, October 11.
In the presence of the Carrefour’s Board of Directors, the Congregation Leader and General Council, the representatives of Marguerite-Bourgeoys Province, and Archbishop Lépine of Montreal, Ms. Mylène Archambault, Director of the Carrefour, welcomed everyone. She then introduced one of the organization’s founders, Sister Lise Perras, who recalled the group’s beginnings.
The film is teasingly introduced as “based on facts – mostly.” This may take history buffs off guard, but seeing Judi Dench’s portrayal of the aging Queen Victoria is such a treat one tends to be caught up in the story anyway. Judi has a couple of scenes in particular that are powerful reflections of a lonely monarch, and scenes that show her delight in learning of faraway places and new things. Her performance is superb. Also, the actor who plays her wayward son and heir, Bertie (later Edward VII), gives a realistic performance that fits the historical records about him! Viewers will enjoy the humor in the tale, as well as feel the power of the unlikely relationship between Victoria and the handsome young man whom she calls her “munshi” (i.e. teacher).
